Day 2 of classes in Russia

Just looking out of the window.... "GOODTIMES"

DAY 2 of classes in Russia

Great sleep after my Steak, Fries, Malibu and Pineapple for 1450 – Russian Ruble. Which is 36,71 in Euros and 52 US Dollars. Crazy! But the morning was Sunny and the wake up call was very pleasant. Thanks to my Translator Dennis, here in Russia, I was ready for the first 3 interviews of the day. I’m really feeling this interview thing. The people here have so many questions to ask about Hip Hop in the US, Oakland and the World. They also have done a lot of back ground research on my work and music. The two questions of the day came from 2 young reporters, who went while over the time that they were aloud to do interviews, but of course I didn’t mind. First question was, “Can you tell us about the Tattoo on your left arm?” Woo, ok, this is my mother Vera Action Harrison. And she was my everything… I went on to talk more about her and they asked a little bit about the Action Family. The second question was “Are you living the American Dream?” I thought about it for about 10 seconds and answered. “I AM the AMERICAN DREAM”. We went on the talk about all the kids and adults I know who love to hear about things that I’ve been blessed to see and do. Who would have ever thought that the little boy in the funky grown up clothes, jumping Double Dutch, dancing like a robot, singing Prince, with the single mother in the little house on the hill would be traveling the world, singing his song, teaching his dance, doing his thing, living the dream.

When classes started I was on FIRE, not just from the great sleep and nice interviews but I found a place that is selling Sobe Adrenaline Rush Energy Drinks… LET’S DANCE PARTY PEOPLE!!! My first class had grown about 5 new folks, and I started in with Usher’s “How Many Girls” and “Hot Tottie, then moved right into  “Action, Tell Who I Em”, and Dahrio Wonder’s “Too Sexy”. The children were LOVING IT! One girl started popping her Ass to “Too Sexy” just like a girl I know from 79th and Bancroft. LOL, REAL TALK. Prince’s “Controversy” was the song and choreography of the day for the 1st class. We also added on the “End of Time” from Beyonce.

The second class got even HOTTER. And this class is super fun. “ACTION JACK”, yes, and you know why? Because someone asked me in the hallway, are you the guy who sings the ACTION JACK? WHAT? Yes and let’s go dance! So I warm them up for 30 minutes and then the Jack started. First of all, I had to give a lesson on JACKING. Energy, Fun, FULL OUT, and LIVE in the music. And we set it off in 3 groups. Each group went to a corner and started making up they’re own choreography to the verses and I gave them the hook, intro, middle and end. Soultrain line the walk. They also needed a lesson on what a Soultrain line was. No problem babies!

When I finished my classes I was completely wet and my dogs were barking very loud. I packed up, gave love and walked back to the hotel. Now I’m ready to eat. But I’m not going to spend $52 USD on yummies tonight. I saw a little store down the street that had some Noodles and veggies. Sounds like home to me. Asian Noodles for dinner? I miss my baby…

First day of classes in Chelyabinsk Russia

I woke up this morning around 6:30am to a bright sunny day in Chelyabinsk Russia, however by 10:30am it was back to GREY!! But I pushed it on to the studio. I must say walking over to it was very special (check videos on FB). The city was very different from any place I’ve been. It east Europe for sure. Now to the classes….

Today I was pleasantly surprised with the students here. My first class was very HOT, you know some good ole “Hip Hop Fusion”. I noticed that Russia has a lot of beautiful women, and not just on the outside but also inside as well. The man aren’t that bad also. I taught a combo in my first class to Beyoncé’s End of Time. It has some nice turns and is Funky and Jazzy all in one. You know how the CORE does it. The class loved it and was ready for more and more. I didn’t think that they would dance with so much soul but they brought it! I had a short 45-min break and was asked to do a couple of interviews with some TV folks. All the teachers were in the hall getting interviewed and talking about dance. I was thrilled to tell my side of the Hip Hop Dance Story. And I did, and was off to my next class, “Inspiration from the Inside – Out”. If you don’t know what I teach, you should come take a class. So this class looked to be a little spicier, and it was. This class is all about the attitude and feeling you get when you start to move. One kid screamed out in the middle of class “CHIRSTINA AGUILERA, I LOVE HER!!!” OMG, they partied! Thanks to some funky unreleased music by the GREAT AAGEE, we had some fun. Today we were “EARTH, WIND, FIRE and WATER”

Next was a big surprise. “Corey Action, you have another interview at the TV station. Please follow us.” All right, now we are talking! Now off to a TV station here in town to have an interview with a famous news castor, on the Federal TV Channel. When I got there, the first thing said was, we need to take you to make up. You would think I’ve learned my lesson by now to carry my MAC-NW43 with me, but I was starting to think it was a little too fem. Shit, of course they didn’t have my color, but again we pushed. The translator was ready and so was I, but what I wasn’t ready for was that this interview was about COREY ACTION the Artist. The host started with asking me about what styles I taught, have I really been doing this since 7 years old, what made me choose Hip Hop, what is the new of my band, where can we buy your music, and then can you sing us a song… GO! You know I was on HIGH at this time. I never saw this coming from this direction. I’ve worked so long and hard and at times I can’t remember why I do what I do. But this is the reminder. This is what makes COREY ACTION tick.

There are 8 teachers here and this is just the first day, LORD, what do you have for us? It was a little rocky coming here at first, because I didn’t have all the information I needed to get me to go to Russia, but now that I’m here, I can say I’m happy to be COREY ACTION and in Europe. PRAISES go up and BLESSINGS come down.

Would you like Eggs or Pancakes? This is what the stewardess asked me on my flight to Moscow. Oh course since I LOVE pancakes, I went for the eggs… Couldn’t take any chances on a mess up and kill my love for the pancake. So I’m here in Chelyabinsk, Russia about to embrace to city of dancers who want to know what I think about Hip Hop Dance. And how Corey Action does it. It’s BIG. I can’t believe that I was doing this in my Aunty Verda’s living room 34 years ago. It’s crazy to think that 20 years I was in Alaska doing the same thing. What a HOT design. I’ve been aloud to be me.
Ok, back to this new journey here on the other side of the world, with 11-hours difference. The first thing I notice was that the sky is different here. I can’t put my finger on it, but I think it looks lower to me. The clouds are different also. Way BIGGER than home or Germany. The airport was a little old, like everything else in this city. My translator said that there is over a million people here. But I think things may have stopped in the late 80’s, early 90’s. There has not been any upgrade in a while. Driving through the city I see a lot of Dogs walking around. It reminded me of Romania. But even more behind. Crazy. My translator is really cool and funny. We went shopping for Juices and snacks for the room. All the teachers met up for dinner tonight, cool folks. Very funny, you know the Artists. We make the best of everything. I think it’s going to be super! Check out the website at http://dancelab.studiomaneken.ru/eng/index.html and get the 411. There is so much we must catch up with. I have so much I need to fill you in on. Now that I have some time, here we go. Be back tomorrow.
